 Frequently Asked Questions

Please read through the commonly asked questions below. I hope they'll make you feel at ease as you begin your therapy journey.

  • Therapy can be an effective tool to gain further insight and awareness into ourselves.  We can learn more about the root causes of our difficulties and have a safe place to explore long-standing issues that we have not been able to resolve on our own.  Therapy can help you develop coping skills for depression, anxiety, and unresolved trauma. Therapy can also help you gain a different perspective and help you navigate relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, and communication issues in a new way.

  • People enter therapy for many different reasons.  Some people enter therapy because they need to resolve uncomfortable symptoms such as feeling sad, anxious, stressed, or have difficulty coping with past painful experiences.  Others enter therapy to address a specific issue such as navigating a major life transition, feeling “stuck” or addressing a behavior they would like to change.

  • Our first few sessions will involve me trying to get to know you and understand the particular problems you may be facing. This will involve understanding your history (to the extent you feel safe in disclosing) as well as discussing what has been helpful and not so helpful in navigating your life. Generally, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your personal history relevant to your issue, and discuss any insights gained from the previous therapy session. However, there are no expectations other than you show up and talk about what you want to talk about at a pace that feels comfortable to you. Sessions are typically 45-minutes in duration and held weekly.

  • My approach is warm, supportive, and empathetic. As a therapist, I believe that building healthy and trusting relationships with my clients is the heart of good practice. I will empathically listen to your concerns and offer guidance and feedback. Together we will work towards thoughtfully examining the issues you are facing and building upon your inner strengths. Because each person has different issues and goals, the therapeutic approach used will vary based on what will best support your healing.

  • Your confidentiality will be strictly maintained to the fullest extent of the law. The law protects the privacy of all communications between a patient and their provider. In most situations, I can only release information about your treatment to others if you sign a written authorization form that meets certain legal requirements imposed by HIPAA. There are several specific exceptions to the rules of confidentiality. These are listed below:

-In the event of a clear and imminent danger to yourself or another person.

-In the event that you disclose information that provides evidence of current abuse or neglect of minor children or a vulnerable adult.

-If you are involved in a court proceeding and it is requested by court order.

  • We purposely are not in-network with any insurance companies, so we do not directly bill insurance. If you have out-of-network benefits we can provide you with the documentation to provide your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Sessions are 100% confidential. We use a secure, HIPAA compliant system through doxy.me to provide online accessibility to our clients.

You can use your laptop, smartphone, or tablet for sessions. You will receive a link to the platform upon scheduling, connecting you to my virtual waiting room.
